Mark Dotson, age 49 of Phelps, Kentucky went to be with our Lord and Savior March 14, 2020. Mark fought a hard battle with the Flu and double Pneumonia. He fought this illness hard until God saw he was ready to rest.
He is the son of Henrietta Layne Dotson and the late Johnny Daryl Dotson. In addition to his mother he is survived by his son Dylan (Kate) Dotson, two grandchildren Kash and Kendyl Dotson, his fiancé, Barb Workman and her children Miranda, Brandon, and Randy, and his half-brother, Timothy Baker. Mark is also survived by several other family members including: Aunt Wanda (Jackie) Hill, Ricky (Randy) Smith, Anita (Pete) Bentley, Uncle Donnie (Tammy) Layne, and Uncle Ernie (Phyllis) Dotson and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Julice “June Bug” Dotson and Sarah Borders Dotson, maternal grandparents, Earl and “Granny” Ruth Layne, and Aunt Kathy Layne and Uncle Gary Dotson.
Mark was a simple man with a kind soul and heart as big as the heavens.
He was a graduate of Phelps High School and was a coal miner and heavy equipment operator at various locations. Several co-workers talk of how talented he was at his job and what a great friendship they had with him.
Mark had so many friends that the list would go on for pages. If he were your friend, he would go above and beyond for you, especially the elderly and the disabled. His signature knock and entrance with “hey” always let everyone know that Mark was there to see them. He never left without a hug and saying. “I love you.”
Mark, you will be missed and loved every single day.
Mark will be laid to rest at the Johnny Dotson Family Cemetery of Abby Branch in Phelps, KY.
